Rattlers Host Wranglers in Regular-Season Finale

July 14, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Arizona Rattlers News Release

The Arizona Rattlers are set to host the Northern Arizona Wranglers in their final regular season game of 2023. They are riding a seven-game win streak and coming fresh off a bye week after defeating the Massachusetts Pirates last Sunday at the Footprint Center.

The Rattlers are back in action this weekend for their third and final regular season matchup against the Northern Arizona Wranglers. Arizona is looking for a season sweep, defeating NAZ 60-34 in the Snake Pit in May. In their second meeting, they secured a tough 63-62 2OT win in Prescott last month.

This game is the regular season finale for the Rattlers with the playoffs beginning the following Saturday, July 22nd at the Footprint Center. A victory in this week's game will award the Rattlers the top seed in the Western Conference and home-field advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs. This week's contest will take place at Footprint Center on Saturday, July 15. Kickoff is set for 8:05 p.m. CT.

CHASING 250

With a win, Head Coach Kevin Guy would secure the 250th win of his coaching career. He is the all-time winningest coach in Rattlers history in both winning percentage and total wins by a wide margin.

LAST GAME

Last week the Rattlers welcomed the Massachusetts Pirates to the Snake Pit, where the two squads competed in a tight game with neither team giving the other much wiggle room. However, the Rattlers prevailed, ending the battle with a 52-43 victory.

This victory came with great performances from QB Drew Powell (208 passing yards, 19/24), and WR Jamal Miles (103 yards, two touchdowns). The Arizona defensive unit made great plays as well, behind an eight tackle and one interception performance from LB Connor Taylor. Kicker Shane McInerney also had an excellent game, connecting on 7/7 PATs and drilling a 40-yard field goal.

BEST OF THE WEST

Since joining the IFL in 2017, the Rattlers have entered the playoffs in the top spot in either the league or the Conference every season except 2018. In 2017, they had the best record in the Intense Conference and would go on to win the United Bowl.

In 2018, the IFL did away with conferences having only six teams and the Rattlers entered the playoffs as the overall second seed. In 2019 and 2021, Arizona placed as the overall top seed. Most recently in 2022, the Rattlers finished the season as the first seed in the Western Conference. Coach Kevin Guy and the Rattlers look to keep this streak going this weekend against the Wranglers.

ONE LAST DANCE

The past two meetings between these two clubs have both been high-scoring affairs. The Rattlers scored 60 points in the first game in late May. Both teams would go on to score more than 60, ending in a final score of 63-62. Both of these games heavily utilized the passing game with Rattlers QB Drew Powell and Wranglers QB Garett Kettle combining for over 700 yards in their first two meetings.
