Austin, TX Jan. 2, 2011 -The Tulsa 66ers defeated the Austin Toros 110-91 on Sunday night at Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas. The 66ers are on a three game winning streak and handed the Toros their fourth consecutive loss.
The first half started slow as both teams struggled to find their shooting rhythm early in the first quarter. The 66ers shot 29 percent from the field and trailed the Toros by five at the end of the first. Kelvin Palmer and Marcus Cousin combined to score 25 of the Toros 46 first half points. However, the Toros were unable to keep the 66ers from catching fire beyond the arch as they made four of six three-point attempts and took a 51-46 lead at halftime.
The Toros charged out of the break and regained the lead with 4:32 left in the third on a Marcus Cousin tip-in that gave the Toros a 65-63 advantage. However, the 66ers were able to recapture the lead and seize control of the game as their bench scored 19 points in the third quarter. The Toros struggled in the end of the third and were unable to score from the field in the closing four minutes. With just over four minutes left to play in the fourth, the 66ers stretched their lead to 19 and the Toros were unable to recover.
Toros' Marcus Cousin led all scorers and recorded his seventh double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had four players in double digit scoring. The 66ers were led by Elijah Millsap and Jerome Dyson who both scored 17 points, followed by Larry Owens (14) and Tweety Carter (11). The Toros Kevin Palmer (17), Lance Thomas (13), and Carldell "Squeaky" Johnson (11) followed Marcus Cousin in scoring.
