Tseng Dazzles in Cougars' Victory

LANSING, Mich.- Jen-Ho Tseng brought a perfect game into the fifth inning and the Cougars paced 16 hits for a 10-1 over the Lugnuts on Friday at Cooley Law School Stadium. The Cougars' (19-8, 64-33) rubber game victory over Lansing (13-14, 45-51) gave the Cougars their eighth straight series victory.

Tseng (5-0) retired the first the first 14 batters he saw before surrendering a two-out single to D.J. Davis. Davis bounced a grounder through the right side of the infield to become Lansing's first base runner. Tseng continued to shine as he finished the day with six scoreless innings and only allowed one more base runner when he walked Mike Reeves to lead off the sixth.

The offense provided a huge cushion as they plated seven runs in the first four frames. Jeimer Candelario's fourth home run of the season was a solo shot to begin the second inning. The Cougars then put up a four spot in the third highlighted with a three-run blast off the bat of Cael Brockmeyer. Two more runs in the fourth made it 7-0 Cougars. The Cougars saw a new pitcher by the fifth inning and didn't score again until the seventh. Chase De Jong (0-6) suffered the loss giving up seven runs.

Kyuji Fujikawa made his second straight rehab appearance facing four batters in relief. The Cubs' right-hander struck out a pair of hitters, but allowed one unearned run. Lansing's lone run of the day broke an 18-inning scoreless streak by Cougars' pitching.

Michael Wagner tossed two and one-third innings of scoreless baseball.

The Cougars now head to Midland, Michigan for a three-game series against the Great Lakes Loons. Saturday's game consists of a pitching matchup between Paul Blackburn (8-2, 2.94) for the Cougars and Luis Chirinos (5-4, 4.63) of Great Lakes.
