Dayton Dragons News Release
Beloit, Wisc. - Gabriel Rosa drilled a three-run triple off the left field fence with two outs in the eighth inning as the Dayton Dragons battled back from a four-run deficit to defeat the Beloit Snappers 6-5 on Friday night. The win gave the Dragons a sweep of the three-game series and their seventh consecutive road victory.
Nick Howard, the Cincinnati Reds first round draft pick last month, pitched a perfect inning of relief and was credited with the victory in his professional baseball debut. Howard showcased a fastball that averaged 95-96 mph and topped out at 98 as he retired all three batters he faced, getting one strikeout.
The Dragons trailed 4-0 after three innings and were still down 4-1 going to the 8th. Robert Ramirez started the inning with a double off the center field fence and Jamodrick McGruder delivered a one-out, pinch hit double to drive in Ramirez and make it 4-2. With two outs, Joe Hudson and Jonathan Reynoso drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Rosa then snapped a 5 for 50 slump by slamming a triple off the fence in left to clear the bases and give the Dragons a 5-4 lead. Rosa scored when the next batter, Ronald Bueno hit ground ball to shortstop that was mishandled for an error to make it 6-4 and cap a five-run inning as the Dragons sent 10 batters to the plate.
Beloit's Tyler Marincov connected on a home run to left field in the eighth inning to pull the Snappers to within one at 6-5. Dragons reliever Alejandro Chacin entered the game to start the ninth and struck out the first batter he faced before surrendering a one-out walk. But Chacin struck out the next two hitters to end the game and earn his 10th save.
The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Bueno and Ramirez each had two. Ramirez has collected at least two hits in each of the three games he has played in with the Dragons, going 7 for 13. The Dragons had five doubles in the game including one each for Ramirez, Hudson, McGruder, Carlton Daal, and Phillip Ervin.
The Dragons (13-14) open a three-game series in Appleton, Wisconsin against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (14-13) on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. (EDT). Nick Travieso (7-5, 4.05) will start for the Dragons against Wisconsin's Tristan Archer (3-4, 4.18).
The next home game is Wednesday, July 23 vs. Quad Cities at Fifth Third Field.
All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at wone.com and through the Dragons Mobile App.
