Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, Wisc - A disastrous eighth inning ruined a promising night for the Beloit Snappers, as they fell to the Dayton Dragons 6-5 Friday night.

The Snappers appeared to be in control for the majority of the ballgame until a late 5-run outburst from the Dragons gave Dayton the final advantage.

Leading 4-1 in the eighth inning, Beloit needed just one more out to end the frame but instead walked two batters to load the bases for the Dragons.

Gabriel Rosa capitalized with a 3-run triple, his first hit of the series (0-for-8), and Dayton took a 5-4 lead. A fielding error from Branden Cogswell allowed Rosa to score in the next at-bat and Dayton took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Snappers cut into the deficit with a Tyler Marincov home run in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't tie the game in the ninth, as three strikeouts ended the contest.

Nick Howard, the Reds' 2014 first-round draft pick, picked up the win in his first professional appearance. Tyler Vail recorded the blown save and the loss for the Snappers.

The Snappers started the game well, as they took the initial lead in the third inning, the first time Beloit led all series long.

Justin Higley began the frame with a standup triple to right field, only his fourth hit of his nine-game Snappers career. Higley finished the night 2-for-3, his best offensive performance in his time with Beloit. B.J. Boyd sent him across the plate in the next at-bat as the Palo Alto, Calif. native hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Following a Melvin Mercedes hit-by-pitch and a Branden Cogswell strikeout, Beloit's bats delivered in a huge way with two outs. Phil Pohl started the offensive barrage with a 2-run home run to left field to give the Snappers a 3-0 lead.

Ryan Mathews answered in the next at-bat with a towering home run off the top of the scoreboard to extend Beloit's lead to 4-0.

The Dragons got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Jonathan Reynoso gave Dayton its first run of the game.
