Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Beloit, Wisc. - Lou Trivino limited the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) to just two hits on Sunday afternoon, and the Beloit Snappers offense (Oakland Athletics) did enough to secure game two of the series, 4-0. The victory clinches a series victory for Beloit.
Trivino (5-8) allowed singles to Oscar Hernandez and Kean Wong, but no Hot Rod reached third base. He struck out five and issued just two walks to earn his fifth victory of the season. Sam Bragg worked the final two innings to seal the shutout and pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Beloit offense would give Trivino the early advantage with a run in the first. Melvin Mercedes led off with a walk, and he advanced to third on a double by Tyler Marincov. Ryan Matthews then grounded out to shortstop Juniel Querecuto, forcing home Mercedes and putting the Snappers in front, 1-0.
Justin Higley hit a one-out triple in the third and scored when Marincov hit a sacrifice fly to right field to stretch the lead to 2-0 in the third. In the fifth, Higley drew a one-out walk, and came around to score when Marincov doubled down the left-field line.
The final run of the game crossed in the eighth, as BA Vollmuth homered for the second consecutive day. The solo blast went over the left-center field fence, and expanded the Beloit advantage to 4-0, which turned out to be the final score.
Jake Faria (6-5) saw his three-start winning streak snapped in the loss. He conceded three runs on five hits and was replaced in the fifth inning. Josh Kimborowicz pitched the final three and two-thirds innings for Bowling Green, and he allowed just one run on three hits.
The Hot Rods will look to avoid the sweep in the finale against the Snappers on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for Noon CT, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show will begin at 11:45 a.m. CT on the radio home of the Hot Rods, 1340 WBGN - The Ticket. The Hot Rods return to town on Wednesday, July 23.
