Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, have announced that pitcher Juan Paniagua has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Daytona. The Cougars have received pitcher Ben Wells from Short-A Boise. Today's roster move maintains the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players as the Cougars conclude a six-game road trip in Michigan this morning against Great Lakes. First pitch is set for 11:05 a.m. CST.
Paniagua (Non-drafted free agent, 2012) becomes the seventh Cougars player to receive a promotion to Daytona this season and the first member of one of the top pitching rotations in Minor League Baseball to leave Kane County. A member of this spring's Opening Day roster, Paniagua went 6-4 at Kane County with a 3.36 ERA in 17 games, 14 of which were starts. The right-hander was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month in June. Paniagua lost his most recent start against Lansing on July 16 - his first loss since May 20.
Wells (7th round, 2010) has spent time at Daytona and Boise this season. Most recently with Boise, Wells was 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 6 starts. The right-hander went 9-6 with Daytona last season and in 2012, made 8 starts in the Midwest League with Peoria.
