Trio of Three Hit Nights Lead Senators Past Baysox
July 5, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators downed the Bowie Baysox 8-5 Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium. Three Senators all finished with three hits and a home run, and the Baysox stranded the bases loaded in the ninth as the Senators hung on to even the series.
Dan Gamache opened the scoring with a solo home run to right in the first, his third of the season, to put the Senators in front.
Jake Noll doubled the lead in the second with his first career home run at Double-A, a solo shot to center. After the next batter, Adam Brett Walker, walked and reached second on a wild pitch, Alec Keller knocked an RBI single to center as the Senators took a 3-0 lead.
The Senators added another run in the third when Taylor Gushue doubled in Carter Kieboom, who walked to start the inning.
Senators starter Logan Darnell tossed three shutout innings before the Baysox cut the lead in half in the fourth on a home run by Aderlin Rodriguez and run-scoring double by Anderson Feliz.
The score remained 4-2 Senators until the sixth when Gushue added to the lead with a solo home run to left to put the Senators on top 5-2.
The Baysox cut the lead to one with a pair of runs in the eighth on three hits, capped by a two-run double by Ademar Rifaela.
The Senators responded by scoring three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and nobody out to start the frame, Gamache drove in a pair with a line drive single to center. Two batters later, Noll grounded an RBI single to center to give the Senators an 8-4 advantage.
The Baysox scored run in the ninth to make it 8-5 but Roman Mendez stranded the bases loaded and the tying run at first as he recorded the final on a line drive to right by Anthony Santander that was caught by Alec Keller.
Senators starting pitcher Logan Darnell (4-4) earned the win after limiting the Baysox to two runs on five hits and a walk.
Baysox starter Brian Gonzalez (2-5) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on eight hits and three walks across four and a third frames.
Gamache, Gushue and Noll all finished with three hits each while Gushue paced the club with three RBI. Kieboom extended his hitting streak to 10 games after his ninth inning single.
The Senators and Baysox continue the series Friday night. Jaron Long starts for the Senators opposite Baysox starter Keegan Akin. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 6:50 p.m.
