Indianapolis Indians News Release
DURHAM, N.C. -- Second baseman Nick Green and first baseman Brad Eldred clobbered solo home runs, while left-hander Shane Youman fanned a season-high 10 batters to help Indianapolis post a 5-1 victory over Durham in front of 9,544 Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Indians improve to an International League-best 40-27 overall and 19-14 on the road, while the Bulls fall to 34-35 on the season and 17-17 at home. Sunday will be the Tribe's 62nd consecutive day leading the IL's West Division.
Youman (7.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 SO), who fired eight shutout innings in his last start on Monday, improved to 3-5 with the win. The 27-year-old is now 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA over his last two outings and his 10 strikeouts establish a new season-best for Indianapolis.
Green (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) put the Indians on the scoreboard in the fourth with a long ball over the right field fence -- his fifth of the year.
Eldred (3-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) stepped to the plate with two outs in the fifth and smacked his fourth roundtripper of the campaign -- a blast to center -- which gave the Tribe a 2-0 lead.
Durham scored its lone run of the night in the sixth when 2B Elliot Johnson (2-for-4, 1 R) reached base on a ground-rule double to left and scored on RF Justin Ruggiano's (1-for-4, 1 RBI) single to right.
Indianapolis fired back with three insurance runs in the seventh. RF Matt Kata (1-for-5, 1 R) beat out an infield single and SS Brian Bixler (1-for-4, 1 R) was hit by a pitch before DH Jose Hernandez (1-for-4, 1 R) loaded the bases with a walk. 3B Russ Johnson (1-for-4, 2 RBI) then roped an RBI single to score Kata and Bixler, while CF Luis Matos (1-for-4, 1 RBI) tagged an RBI single to plate Hernandez.
Tribe RHP Franquelis Osoria (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) entered in the eighth to earn his fifth save of the season.
Bulls RHP Mitch Talbot (4.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 5-6.
Indianapolis wraps up its eight-game road trip at Durham on Sunday at 5 p.m. RHP John Wasdin is slated to start for the Indians, while RHP Jae Seo is expected to get the nod for the Bulls.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 4:40 p.m.
