Pawtucket, RI - The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Richmond Braves 4-3 Saturday at McCoy Stadium. George Kottaras led off the ninth inning by smashing a home run to give the Red Sox a walk-off win.
The Red Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning; they led 2-0 before the Braves had an out. Joe McEwing doubled a run home. Michael Tucker knocked McEwing in with a double. Ed Rodgers capped the first inning rally with an infield single that scored Tucker. The Braves chipped away with a run in the third when Martin Prado scored on a double play ball. Larry Bigbie singled a run home to cut the Sox lead to 3-2 in the sixth. Richmond tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Brayan Pena. Kottaras home run snapped a streak of 22 straight scoreless innings for Braves pitcher Jeff Bennett.
Bryan Corey picked up the win. Bennett took the loss. Pena and Brent Lillibridge had two hits each for the Braves. Kottaras and McEwing had two hits for the Red Sox.
The Braves and Sox close the series Sunday at McCoy Stadium at 1:05 PM. Kevin Barry will pitch for the Braves against Abe Alvarez.
