Bisons Notes

June 16, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Norfolk Tides in the third game of a four-game series from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). The series is tied at one after the Herd completed the 5-4 victory on Friday. Tonight, the Bisons will turn to RHP Jeff Harris, who is coming off a no-decision on Sunday in Richmond (6.1IP, 2R, 3K). Norfolk will counter with RHP Rob Bell.

VS. THE TIDES: Since rejoining the International League in 1998, the Bisons have not lost a season series against the Tides. With last night's win, Buffalo is 47-25 against the Tides (.653 winning percentage). That record includes 27 wins in 39 games in Norfolk (.692 winning percentage).

STARTING STRONG: RHP Jeff Harris has been extremely sharp recently. On June 3 against Toledo, the righty threw a season-high 7.2 innings and struck out seven (lost 3-2). On Sunday, Harris turned in another quality start by allowing just two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings of work. Harris leads the Bisons in starts (12) and is 2nd in innings pitched (61.2IP).

HITTING THE CHARTS: With Rochester's Matt Tolbert reaching qualification, Ben Francisco has fallen to 2nd on the International League hitting charts with his .338 average. Francisco has hit in four straight with a pair of doubles last night. He is also 2nd in the IL in hits (78), and T5th in doubles (18) and runs scored (39).

BACK ON TRACK: Bisons closer Edward Mujica retired all three batters he faced last night to record his second consecutive save. He now has 10 on the year, good for a tie of 4th in the International League. This season, Mujica has wrapped up 10 of 12 save opportunities (83% success rate).

MULTI-HITTERS: Four different Bisons batters had multi-hit performances on Friday. Ben Francisco picked up his team-leading 25th multi-hit game while Yamid Haad, Jason Cooper and Jonathan Van Every also had two hits. As a team, the Bisons .270 batting average and 326 runs scored are both 3rd in the IL.

SEEING 20-20: With his two-run homer last night, outfielder Jason Cooper became the ninth different Bisons batter to collect 20RBI on the season. Ryan Mulhern leads the team with 39RBI with Ben Francisco (34), Keith Ginter (31) and Luis Rivas (30) all with 30+ RBI on the season. Joe Inglett has 19RBI this year.
