Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

TROY, NY --- Dexturte McCall lined a bases loaded, one-out RBI single to centerfield to score Bryan Muniz in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Tri-City ValleyCats a 6-5 walkoff victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Wednesday night at Bruno Stadium.

Muniz walked to leadoff the ninth and advanced around to third base on a throwing error by pitcher John Gorman on a pickoff attempt. After a pair of intentional walks loaded the bases, Gorman got Anthony Hermelyn to flyout to shallow rightfield for the first out before McCall lined the game-winning single to center.

Tri-City had built a 4-0 lead with two runs in both the first and second innings off Vermont starter Dustin Driver, but the Lake Monsters rallied to tie the game with a Mikey White sacrifice fly in the third inning and a Chris Iriart three-run double on an 0-2 pitch in the fifth inning. It was the eighth double of the season for Iriart, who also increased his team-high RBI total to 21.

The ValleyCats retook the lead in the sixth on a Pat Porter one-out triple and run-scoring wild pitch by Vermont reliever Kevin Duchene, who allowed the one run on two hits with four walks in three innings. The Lake Monsters were able to again tie the game in the seventh as White singled, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a Seong-min Kim sacrficice fly.

Steve Pallares was 3-for-5 with a run scored for Vermont, while White and Richie Martin both had two hits and Skye Bolt scored a pair of runs. McCall was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI for Tri-City, while reliever Zac Grotz (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning to earn the win.

Vermont (10-14) and Tri-City (13-12) will play the second game of the three-game series at Bruno Stadium on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
