
Cutters Win Seesaw Battle with Batavia

Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters headed to Dwyer Stadium for the first time this season for the first of two games against the Batavia Muckdogs on Wednesday night. The Cutters battled back and forth on the night with the Muckdogs and with one swing of the bat from Jan Hernandez would knock off Batavia 6-5.
The Cutters would fall behind in the bottom of the second inning against the Muckdogs. Roy Morales picked up his first hit of the season driving in Brad Haynal from second base to make it a 1-0 game. The Cutters would answer in the top of the third inning with three consecutive hits. Zach Coppola delivered his second double of the season and gave the Cutters the 2-1 lead in the process scoring Austin Bossart and Grenny Cumana. Batavia would answer with two runs against starter Denton Keys in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Williamsport would take a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning after back to back singles by Cumana and Coppola. The single by Cumana would score William Cuicas who lead off the inning with a triple. A bunt single and an error by Batavia would allow Cumana to score. Keys went five innings for Williamsport allowing three runs on seven hits. Batavia would tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning against Cutters reliever Kenny Koplove.
The Cutters would break the tie in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run by Jan Hernandez to make it a 6- 5 game. The home run for Hernandez is his fifth of the season and first on the road. Anthony Sequeira kept the Muckdogs off guard in the eighth and ninth innings. Sequeira retired all six batters he faced while striking out three on the way to his second win of the season. Morales suffered his second loss of the season falling to 0-2
