
Hudson Valley Drops Series Opener to Aberdeen

Aberdeen, MD (7/15/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday evening at Ripken Stadium.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the IronBirds picked up two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Shortstop Ricardo Andujar led off the inning with a single and scored on center fielder Cedric Mullins's RBI triple. Mullins scored later in the inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by left fielder D.J. Stewart. Aberdeen extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single by Andujar.
Hudson Valley cut the Aberdeen lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning when left fielder Joe McCarthy and designated hitter Manny Sanchez hit back-to-back singles, with McCarthy coming around to score later in the inning on a RBI single by catcher Taylor Hawkins. The IronBirds increased their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when a run scored on a fielding error and made it 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning on catcher Jerry McClanahan's RBI walk.
Aberdeen reliever Elias Pinales (3-0) earned the win after tossing three shutout innings while striking out three batters. Hudson Valley's starter Greg Maisto (0-4) took the loss after giving up three runs in three and a third innings of work.
Notes: The Renegades bullpen kept their team in the game after Maisto departed in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tim Ingram and Cris Crisostomo combined to allow just one earned run off four hits in four and two-thirds innings while striking out three batters. Ingram has not allowed an earned run now in his last three relief appearances.
Hudson Valley continues their three-game series against Aberdeen with game two set for Thursday, July 16th at 7:05pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday, July 21st as they host the Williamsport Crosscutters, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
