Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

TROY, NY (July 22, 2013) - It was a fitting end to a very evenly matched series. Like two prizefighters brawling through the late rounds, the Renegades and ValleyCats showed once again why they're a great pairing. A one hour rain delay in the bottom of the eighth inning halted play, but the tension only mounted as the ValleyCats pulled out a 4-3 victory to claim the final two games of the series. Fortunately for the Renegades, the teams will begin a brand new series at Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday night. That being said, the top of the ninth inning could have been theirs for the taking.

ValleyCats outfielder Jon Kemmer made his first imprint on the game with one swing in the bottom of the second inning off Jaime Schultz (1-1). After Ryan Dineen walked with two outs, Kemmer clobbered a 3-2 offering over the wall in right to give the ValleyCats a 2-0 lead. As they showed the night before, the Renegades attacked right away in the third after an early deficit. A one-out infield single by Julian Ridings allowed Ty Young to lash an RBI double to make it 2-1. But Ariel Soriano flew out to left field to end the inning.

Facing Colton Reavis in the fifth, the ValleyCats got a leadoff single from James Ramsay. Michael Martinez continued his dominance in the series with an RBI double to left-center that added a run to make it 3-1. Ronnie Mitchell's groundout to first moved Martinez to third with two outs. Facing 'Cats catcher Ernesto Genoves, Reavis unloaded a wild pitch past Ryan McChesney that allowed Martinez to score and give them a 4-1 lead.

Once again, the 'Gades struck while the iron was hot in the top of the sixth. Two straight walks by Tanner Bushue (3-1) brought the tying run to the plate in the form of Darryl George. The 'Cats then called lefthander Albert Minnis from the bullpen, and he got George to ground into a fielder's choice for the first out. With runners at the corners, John Alexander smashed an RBI double down the right field line to make it 4-2. With the tying runs in scoring position, Granden Goetzman's RBI groundout to short scored George and moved Alexander to third. Trailing 4-3, Julian Morillo grounded out to third to retire the side and send the game into the seventh.

After Willie Gabay and Andrew Hanse worked a scoreless seventh and eighth, the Renegades were down to their final three outs in the ninth trailing by a run. Ridings grounded a one-out single into center to put the tying run on base. Johnny Field then sent a towering drive to deep left that had a chance to go off the wall, but Kemmer leaped at the warning track to make the catch as he collided with the fence. The next batter was Young, and with the outfielders deep, his double into the right field corner moved Ridings to third. Tri-City's Richard Rodriguez calmed the storm and earned his first save of the year after Soriano grounded out to first to end the ballgame.

NOTES: The rain delay lasted one hour and one minute after the tarp was pulled with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth...the Renegades had a man on base in each inning and stranded 10 altogether...they were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and were 6-for-35 (.171) in the series...Ridings had his first three-hit game of the season...Goetzman has six RBIs in his last four games after totaling just three through his first 20.

The Renegades return home for the start of a five-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM against the ValleyCats. Kevin Brandt (3-2, 2.42 ERA) will go for his third straight win against Tri City's Michael Feliz (3-1, 1.27 ERA). Tuesday is also German Night at The Dutch and great seats are still available, so call 845-838-0094 or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
