
Trenton Shuts Out New Britain 11-0 On Tuesday Night

(New Britain, CT)- Trenton had a season-high in runs and hits, and shut out New Britain 11-0 on Tuesday night from New Britain Stadium in New Britain, CT. Trenton's 21 hits tied a franchise record.
Trenton (21-21) scored four runs in second inning to take a 4-0 lead. With one out, Catcher Kyle Anson walked. He advanced to third base on a double by Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci. Left fielder James Cooper followed with an RBI single to put Trenton on top 1-0. A sacrifice fly RBI by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez made it 2-0. Later in the frame, First baseman Jorge Vazquez connected on a two-run single to increase the lead to 4-0. The Thunder tallied two runs in the fourth inning to add to the lead. Nunez hit a solo home run off of New Britain Starting Pitcher Ryan Mullins (2-6) to make it 5-0. Vazquez picked up an RBI single later in the inning for his third RBI of the game. The Thunder put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez had a a three-run double in the frame off of New Britain Reliever Zach Ward.
Trenton had several offensive standouts in the win. Outfielder Colin Curtis went 5 x 5 with three runs scored. The five-hit game was the first for a Thunder player since Bronson Sardinha went 5 x 7 vs. Portland July 2, 2006. Nunez finished the game 4 x 4 with two runs, a home run, and two RBI. Anson, Malec and Vazquez each had two hits in the win for the Thunder. The last time Trenton had 21 hits was at Portland (7/3/06). Trenton's 11 runs were a season-high which topped the 10 runs the Thunder scored at Bowie (5/6).
Trenton Starting Pitcher Zach McAllister (3-2) tossed seven shutout innings to earn the win. He scattered four hits, struck out five, and walked only two in the win. The win was his second against New Britain, and McAllister has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his eight starts so far this season. Thunder Reliever Kevin Whelan tossed two scoreless innings in relief of McAllister. Mullins allowed 13 hits and six runs (four earned) over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. Trenton has now pitched back-to-back shutouts and have not allowed a run since the seventh inning on Sunday at New Hampshire. Trenton pitching has now pitched 20 consecutive shutout innings.
Trenton and New Britain will play the middle game of the three-game on Wednesday Night at New Britatin Stadium. RHP Ivan Nova (3-3, 3.69) will start for Trenton against New Britain RHP Cole DeVries (3-3, 2.86). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
