Altoona Curve News Release

FOR ALTOONA:

RHP Brad Lincoln will make his ninth start of the season tonight against Bowie. Last time out, Lincoln faced the Baysox and tossed one of the more memorable games in franchise history. On 5/21, Lincoln pitched a complete-game shutout, holding Bowie to just two hits. It was the first complete game of Lincoln's career. The righty was drafted in the first round of the 2006 draft (fourth overall) from the University of Houston.

FOR BOWIE:

RHP John Mariotti will make his fourth career Double-A start tonight and his second against Altoona. Mariotti lost his last time out to the Curve, issuing a pair of runs on five hits over 6.0 innings...Mariotti was promoted from Frederick this season before his Double-A debut (5/9 @ ERI - ND, 5.0 ip)...He was 1-2 with a 4.37 ERA with the Keys in seven appearances (two starts)...The 24-year old Mariotti was drafted by Baltimore in the 18th round of the June 2007 draft out of Costal Carolina University.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Altoona Curve stranded 10 men on base, including eight in scoring position as they were shut out against Reading, 6-0 on Memorial Day at Blair County Ballpark. Lefty Kyle Bloom looked solid, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just one run in the fourth straight loss for Altoona.

CURVE/BAYSOX SERIES:

The Altoona Curve will welcome in the Bowie Baysox to BCB for the first time this season. This will be the fourth of 21 scheduled meetings between the two squads, with Bowie holding a 2-1 edge on the season series thus far...Curve SS Brian Friday has just one hit in three games against Bowie (1x13, .077)...Pedro Lopez is hitting .571 (4x7)...Curve pitching is holding the Baysox to a .165 team average so far in the season series...Bowie INF Michael Costanzo returns to BCB. Costanzo was a Curve killer in 2007 as a member of the Reading Phillies, when he swatted 27 home runs that season (2nd in E.L.). Costanzo hit .312 against Altoona with 24 hits on '07.

DON'T GO THERE:

If the Curve loses today, they will match the franchise record low point of 17 games below .500. In 2001, the Curve was 62-79 entering the final day of the regular season. That club won the game to finish 63-79, the worst single-season mark in club history.

‘PEN OUT OF INK?

A usually solid Curve bullpen has stumbled recently. The Curve bullpen has given up 36 runs in 42.2 innings for a 7.59 ERA.

THAT'S GLOVELY:

In yesterday's game, the Curve did not commit and error. It was the first time that Altoona has not committed an error in consecutive games this season.
