New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Trenton's Zach McAllister fired seven scoreless innings and Eduardo Nunez and Colin Curtis, batting at the top of the order, combined for nine hits and five runs as the Thunder cruised to a 11-0 shutout over the Rock Cats.

McAllister (3-2) limited the Rock Cats to four hits while striking out five. The Thunder pounded out 21 hits, led by Nunez, who went 4-for-4 in the leadoff spot, and Curtis, who finished a perfect 5-for-5 on the night.

Rock Cats starter Ryan Mullins found himself in a jam in the first inning after allowing back-to-back singles to Nunez and Curtis to start off the inning and then walking the third batter he faced to load the bases with no outs. Mullins forced Jorge Vazquez to hit a grounder to third baseman Danny Valencia, who fired to home for the force out. Catcher Danny Lehmann fired to first to complete the double play. Mullins then forced another ground out to escape the jam.

Mullins ran into more trouble in the second. He issued a one-out walk to Kyle Anson before allowing a double to Marcos Vechionacci. James Cooper then delivered an RBI single to left field for a 1-0 lead. Nunez tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly to left field. Curtis singled and an error by shortstop Steve Tolleson, which would have ended the inning, allowed Chris Malec to reach base safely. Vazquez took advantage of the extended inning by knocking in two runs with a single to center field.

The Thunder tacked on two more runs in the fourth, including a solo homer by Nunez. Vazquez added an RBI single. Edwar Gonzalez added a three-run double in the seventh.

Mullins (2-6) was struck for six runs - four earned - on 13 hits through 4 2/3 innings.
