New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH-A franchise-record crowd of 8,903 watched Tuesday night's game between the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Tonight's game, which featured a rehabilitation start by Red Sox pitcher John Smoltz, marked the third straight season the Fisher Cats have set a single-game record, and it eclipsed the previous record crowd of 8,762 that witnessed the 2008 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game on July 16, 2008.
"This underscores what Minor League Baseball is -an affordable, entertainment option where players can hone their skills on their way to the Major Leagues, whether it be a first-ballot Hall of Famer or an up-and-coming prospect," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner.
The previous Merchantsauto.com Stadium record attendance figure for a regular-season game was 8,227, set on June 16, 2007, when the Fisher Cats hosted the Erie SeaWolves.
