
Trenton Rallies Back to Win 9-8 on Wednesday

Portland, Maine - The Trenton Thunder (14-10) rallied from a 6-0 deficit and took the rubber match of the series over Portland (7-14) with a 9-8 win on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.
Trailing 8-7 with two on and two out in the eighth, Mandy Alvarez hit a high pop-up down the right field line that was dropped by Nick Lovullo and allowed both runners to score for Trenton.
James Reeves (1-0) earned the win in relief for Trenton, who used five pitchers in the ballgame.
Trey Ball (1-2) allowed five runs (three earned) in two innings of relief and was the losing pitcher. Sea Dogs starter Kevin McAvoy lasted 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on two hits while walking four and fanning six. Portland pitchers combined to walk a season-high 12 in the game.
The Sea Dogs were able to score four runs in the bottom of the first off of Thunder starter Dillon Tate (ND). With two on and two out, Tate Matheny hit an RBI single, then Luke Tendler hit a three-run homer over the right field wall to make it 4-0.
Portland added two more runs off of Tate in the second on an RBI double by Nick Lovullo and a single by Jeremy Rivera. Tate allowed six runs on six hits in 1.1 innings.
Trenton scored four unanswered runs to trim the Sea Dogs lead to 6-4, but the Dogs added two more in the fourth inning on a solo homer by Cole Sturgeon (5) and an RBI single by Jhon Nunez to make it 8-4. Sturgeon tied a career-high with four hits.
Cesar Diaz hit a three-run homer off of Ball in the seventh to trim the Trenton deficit to 8-7.
The Sea Dogs begin a seven-game roadtrip on Thursday night against the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) from Dunkin' Donuts Park. Righty Travis Lakins makes his second start of the year against Hartford's Parker French. Radio coverage with Mike Antonellis begins at 6:50 PM on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network.
