Four-Run 9th Propels Fightins to win in New Hampshire

(Manchester, NH) - The Reading Fighitn Phils (9-14) scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (15-8) as they won 6-5 on Wednesday morning.

Damek Tomscha and Zach Green both hit back-to-back home runs to jump start the ninth inning against Fisher Cats reliever Andrew Case (0-1). Jan Hernandez and Brandon Bednar hit back-to-back doubles with one out to give the Fightins a 6-4 lead.

Cavan Biggio got the first run of the game for the Fisher Cats in the bottom of the first inning as he homered off Harold Arauz. Biggio's home run was his sixth of the season and fourth against the Fightin Phils. Green answered quickly off New Hampshire's Sean Reid-Foley in the bottom of the first inning, as he hit his fourth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Zach Coppola broke the 1-1 game with a go-ahead RBI single off Reid-Foley in the top of the fifth inning to score Hernandez. New Hampshire got two runs off Arauz in the bottom of the sixth inning as Max Pentecost hit a two-run double to give the Fisher Cats a 3-2 lead.

New Hampshire's Sean Reid-Foley struck out a season-high ten batters through six innings. The Fisher Cats got a run off Trevor Bettancourt in the bottom of the ninth inning as Juan Kelly homered to cut the Fightins lead to 6-5.

Tyler Gilbert (3-0) earned the win as he pitched 1 1/3 innings while allowing an unearned run.

The Fightin Phils are off on Thursday and return home on Friday night to play the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Game-time is 7:15 p.m.
