Trenton defeats Bowie 10-8 in rain-shortened game

(Bowie, MD)- Trenton scored six runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Bowie 10-8 in the first game of a doubleheader at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD. The six runs were the most runs that Trenton has scored in an inning this season. The game was called during the top of the 7th inning because of rain. The second game of doubleheader was rained out.

With the game knotted at 3-3 in the fourth inning, Trenton (11-11) plated six runs. With runners at first and second base and one out, Shortstop Eduardo Nunez connected on an RBI single off of Bowie Starting Pitcher Jake Arrieta (2-1) to give the Thunder a 4-3 lead. Second baseman Reegie Corona followed with a two-run double to increase Trenton's lead to 6-3. Then, Outfielder Colin Curtis singled to drive home a run to make it 7-3. The final two runs of the inning came home on an RBI single by C Kyle Anson. Down 3-0 in the third inning, First Baseman Jorge Vazquez hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 3-3. The home run was Vazquez's third of the season. He also had his first three-hit game of the season. Trenton's 13 hits was a season-high. Trenton had five players with multi-hit games.

Trenton's Starting Pitcher Ivan Nova went 4 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and five earned runs. He walked six and struck out two. Trenton Reliever Josh Schmidt (2-1) tossed one scoreless inning for the win. Arrieta gave up seven hits and eight runs (five earned) in 3 1/3 innings. Trenton pitching walked 11 batters.

Trenton and Bowie are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Thursday morning. The first game is slated to begin at 11:05 AM. RHP Ryan Pope (1-1, 4.03) will start for Trenton vs. LHP Bobby Livingston (1-1, 3.57) in the first game. RHP Alan Horne (0-1, 7.36) is slated to start the second game. Bowie's Starting Pitcher in the 2nd game is TBD.
