Trashers earn three of possible four points on road

Danbury Trashers News Release

DANBURY, CT-The Danbury Trashers were familiar with starting as a new organization. Last season the Trashers were the expansion team opening at home with a win and last week they ended up on the other side of the fence as they fell to the Port Huron Flags 5-4 in a shootout in the Flags' first game as a franchise. Despite the loss, the Trashers still earned a point.

However the Trashers would bounce back the following night as they took the winning side in a shootout over the Flint Generals 4-3. Veteran defenseman Dave MacIsaac was the hero as he scored Danbury's third goal of the night while he added the game-winner in the shootout to give the Trashers a 1-0-1 record for the week.

While a number of the Danbury newcomers played well, the newest stars are the Omicioli brothers, as Mike and Drew combined to score nine points on four goals over two games, with each scoring two goals apiece. They combined with Carlyle Lewis to score five of Danbury's eight goals over the weekend. Lewis, who plays on the same line with the Omicioli's, finished with three points.

FLINT, MI--Mike and Drew Omicioli scored goals for the second straight game while Dave MacIsaac scored a 3rd period goal while he added the game-winner in the shootout as the Trashers defeated Flint 4-3 at Perani's Arena on Saturday night.

Drew Omicioli's second goal of the season was scored at the 5:33 mark of the opening frame on an assist from Drew, while Flint equalized the score on Matt Elich's first of the season at the 15:35 mark from JP Morin and Terry Marchant on the power play.

Leo Thomas scored the first of two goals as he netted an unassisted tally at the 9:24 mark of the second period which was followed by Jon Mirasty's second fight of the season at the 9:27 mark as he took down George Cantrall following an exciting skirmish between the two combatants.

The Trashers re-tied the score at 2-2 when Mike Omicioli netted his second of the year on an assist from Frederic Belanger. Danbury then emerged with a 3-2 lead when Dave MacIsaac scored his first of the year after a nifty drop pass from Alex Goupil at the 9:13 mark, but then Thomas scored again from Morin at the 15:53 mark to send it to a shootout.

The six round shootout featured goals by Drew Omicioli and Dave MacIsaac, while Thomas was the only Flint General to beat Trashers goalie Sylvain Daigle in the shootout session, which lasted six rounds. Daigle stopped 23 of 26 shots in his first win of the season while Jason Saal saved 28 of 31 in the shootout loss.
