
Mallards Open Season With Pair of Victories

Moline, IL-The Mallards began their 11th season with a pair of victories on Opening Weekend. On Friday in Flint, the team earned a 6-2 win before coming home for Opening Night 2005. In their first appearance at the Mark this year, the team earned a 4-3 comeback victory in a shootout over Motor City.
This week, the Mallards host Flint on Friday at 7 p.m. It's the first visit of the year by the Generals to The MARK. The team journeys to Rockford for the first time this season on Saturday for a showdown with the Hogs. The weekend wraps up with the back end of a home-and-home with the Hogs on Sunday at 1 p.m. at The MARK.

The Mallards play their first Sunday game of the year vs. Rockford. Before the game, join the Mallards for a hog roast presented by DJ's Ribs, Miller Lite and the River House Pub & Grill in the courtyard next to the Mallards Nest.

Friday, October 21st-Mallards 6 at Flint 2
The Mallards kicked off the 2005-06 campaign in Flint, Michigan with a 6-2 win over the Generals. Two Boston University Alumni led the way as Forward Matt Radoslovich scored twice in his pro debut and fellow Terrier Jason Tapp made 27 saves in the Mallards net. Radoslovich opened the scoring with his first pro goal at the 8:31 mark of the opening period. The Mallards held the 1-0 lead into the intermission before Flint forward George Cantrall scored early in the second to tie the game at one. Just past the halfway mark of the middle period, the Mallards took the lead for good on Joel Pullman's first goal as a Mallard. Patrick Nadeau extended the lead to 3-1 on a shorthanded tally with just 1:43 left in the second. In the third period, the Mallards pulled away on Radoslovich's second goal of the game and tallies from Chad Woollard and Evgeny Lazarev. Flint's Jason Selleke closed the scoring with 2:53 left, but it was too little too late as the Mallards opened the season with a 6-2 victory.
Saturday, October 22nd-Motor City 3 at Mallards 4 - Shootout
After trailing most of the game, the Mallards struck twice in the third period on their way to a 4-3 shootout win over Motor City. The line of Chad Woollard, Patrick Nadeau and Anthony Blumer combined for eight points on the evening in propelling the Mallards to their second win in as many nights. Jason Tapp earned his second victory of the year after stopping 30 shots in regulation and making four saves in the shootout.
Motor City's Chris Gignac scored his first goal of the season 6:08 into the opening period to stake the Mechanics to a 1-0 lead. The Mallards evened the game 6:06 later when Chad Woollard scored his first goal of the evening on the power play. Motor City reclaimed the lead with 6:29 left in the first on a goal by Adam Edinger.
In the second period, Motor City extended their lead to 3-1 when Konstantin Kalmikov tallied with just 39 seconds left in the frame.
In the third period, the Mallards mounted a comeback that left the crowd of 5,561 in hysterics. Halfway through the period, Woollard scored his second goal of the game. Just 2:18 after Woollard's marker, Blumer scored his first professional goal to tie the game at three. After 7:37 of scoreless hockey, the game headed to a shootout.
In the extra frame, Nadeau and Woollard scored while Tapp stopped four of five Motor City shooters to earn the win.
Player of the Week
Chad Woollard is the Mallards nominee for the UHL Player of the Week. He recorded a goal in Flint on Friday before scoring a pair of goal with an assist on Opening Night at The MARK.
Goalie of the Week
Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He went 2-0-0 in the first weekend of games with a 2.50 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. He stopped 27 shots on his way to a win on Friday in Flint. He made 30 saves in the Mallards Opening Night win on Saturday.
