Left wing Josh Tataryn scored in the fifth round of shootouts on Friday night to give the Vipers their first victory in the team's brief history in Roanoke, Virginia. Backed by the solid goaltending of Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week nominee Jamie Hodson, the Vipers took a 2-2 tie into the end of the third period to force a shootout. Hodson recorded 33 saves during regulation for the Vipers, showing the fans in Roanoke some of the best goaltending they've seen since the days of former Roanoke Express goaltender and now assistant coach Daniel Berthiaume. Vipers right wing Mark Scott, who received a nomination for Sher-Wood Player of the Week, had a goal and an assist in the match. Slovakia native Branislav Kvetan also scored for Roanoke. Jan Jas scored the Vipers first shootout goal in round two, but the Komets' Colin Chaulk evened the score in round three with a goal.

Vipers rookie D-man Alex Jerofejevs scored the first professional goal of his career on Saturday night with an even strength goal in the second period off passes from Mark Scott and team captain David Beauregard. Beauregard ended up with a goal and two assists in the match. New Viper acquisition, Louis-Philippe "L.P." Martin, picked up by the team on Saturday after the release of Brendon Clark, also scored his first professional goal at 9:42 in the first period. Martin, from whom the Vipers expect big offensive numbers, had 65 points (37 G, 28 A) in 54 games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2004-05. Josh Tataryn also scored for the Vipers on Saturday, and right wing Mark Scott added two assists. Though he allowed five Komets goals and took a tough loss, goaltender Jamie Hodson had another strong evening to follow his shootout victory on Friday. Hodson made 37 saves on Saturday against Fort Wayne, who kept the pressure on the 6-foot-2 Manitoba native throughout the contest.
