
Watters and Tapp earn weekly UHL honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Adirondack Frostbite right wing Kevin Watters has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Quad City Mallards goaltender Jason Tapp has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the first week of the 2005-06 UHL season.
Watters finished the week with seven points (5g, 2a) and a plus-four rating in three games played. In Friday's season opener in Richmond, he scored a power play goal in the second period of the 5-3 victory vs. the Richmond RiverDogs. It was the first goal of his professional career and also proved to be the game-winner. He also added two assists. On Saturday, he notched a hat trick (3g) in the team's home opener, plus tallied one assist in the 8-3 win over Richmond. He concluded the weekend by scoring a shorthanded goal in Sunday's 5-2 win vs. Richmond. The 22-year-old native of Pittsford, New York is currently tied for second in UHL scoring with teammate Blake Stewart (5g, 2a).
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Danbury center Mike Omicioli, Elmira right wing Carl Drakensjo, Flint forward Leo Thomas, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Kalamazoo center Tyler Rennette, Missouri center Damian Surma, Motor City center Greg Bullock, Muskegon right wing Rustyn Dolyny, Port Huron left wing Derrick Atkinson, Quad City forward Chad Woollard, Richmond center Mike Oliveira, Roanoke right wing Mark Scott, and Rockford right wing Jason Notermann.
Tapp finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 2.50 goals against average, and a .919 save percentage. He made 27 saves on 29 shots in Friday's 6-2 win vs. Flint. On Saturday, he made 30 saves on 33 shots, plus stopped 4 of 5 attempts in the shootout to help the Mallards earn 4-3 shootout victory over the Motor City Mechanics. The victory ended Motor City's 13-game regular season winning streak which dated back to last season. The 27-year-old Kelowna, British Columbia native is in his first season with Quad City. He tied for the UHL lead in 2004-05 with seven shutouts as a member of the Missouri River Otters.
