Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - What quickly became a disastrous 12th inning for the Redbirds saw the Trappers send 17 men to the plate on their way to 12 runs in the inning, giving Edmonton a 15-3 win over Memphis Tuesday night.

With the score tied at 3-3 after 11 innings, the first 10 Edmonton batters in the 12th reached base. After an error by 2B Jerome Alviso gave the Trappers the lead, back-to-back run-scoring singles were followed by a three-run double by RF Val Pascucci, breaking the game open and giving Edmonton a 9-3 lead. The inning eventually ended with Cody McKay moving from third base to the mound to face the final five batters, as LHP Randy Flores came off the bench to play left field.

The Redbirds opened the scoring in the game with a two-run single by SS Jason Bowers in the second, and the Trappers tied the game at 2-2 in the top half of the third on consecutive RBI singles by SS Maicer Izturis and Pascucci. Memphis took another short-lived lead in the fifth when RF Dee Haynes hit his fifth home run of the year, but the game was knotted again in the sixth on a double by 2B Rick Short, setting the stage for Edmonton's epic 12th inning after five scoreless frames by both clubs.

The 12 runs in the final inning established a new Redbirds record for runs allowed in a single inning, eclipsing the previous mark of 10, set most recently on July 15, 2003, at Oklahoma, while tying the all-time Memphis baseball record.

The Redbirds look for redemption in the second game of a four-game set Wednesday night, as LHP Luis Martinez and RHP Jon Rauch square off in a 7:05 p.m. start at AutoZone Park.
