Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Peter Bauer worked seven innings for a victory in his Triple-A debut, leading the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 5-1 win over the Portland Beavers Tuesday night at PGE Park.
Bauer (1-0), who was transferred from Class AA Carolina earlier in the day, struck out four and allowed one run on six hits for the Isotopes (55-49). He also doubled in his first at-bat and scored as the Isotopes built a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Drew Niles got the scoring underway in the inning, stroking a two-run home run over the wall in right field off Tim Stauffer. Bauer, who walked and stole a base in the fourth, doubled to left with one out and scored on Josh Wilson's double with two outs to give the Isotopes a 3-0 lead. Two of the three runs were unearned, however, as Chris Aguila reached on an error by first baseman Brian Buchanan to start the inning.
Jose Nieves and Ben Risinger had back-to-back, one-out singles in the bottom of the second, and J.J. Furmaniak followed with a double to the corner in right field for Portland's only run.
Albuquerque went back to work in the top of the sixth when Niles drove in Matt Padgett with an RBI groundout to second base. Aguila, who reached base on an error, then scored on Ryan Jorgensen's RBI single with one out.
The net result for Stauffer (3-1) was his first Triple-A loss. He worked 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (2 earned) on six hits.
The loss dropped the second-place Beavers (55-49) 1.5 games out of first place in the North Division behind Tacoma.
The two teams meet again Wednesday night at PGE Park at 7:05 p.m.
NOTES: On Tuesday, the Beavers transferred left-hander Roger Deago to Class AA Mobile and added right-hander Chris Rojas from Mobile ... Ramon Vazquez was ejected from the game by umpire Frank Coffland in the bottom of the third after disputing a called third strike.
