Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, TNâ Edmonton scored five times on 11 hits to defeat Memphis 5-2 Wednesday night at AutoZone Park in a game that took just 2:17 â two hours and eight minutes quicker than Tuesday night's game.
Trappers LF Matt Cepicky led off the second inning with a solo home run to give Edmonton the lead, but Memphis tied it up in the bottom of the inning on 2B Scott Seabol's team-leading 23rd home run of the season. Seabol had two of the Redbirds' five hits on the night. The Trappers went back on top, for good this time, with an unearned run in the fourth, and added one in the fifth and two more in the seventh against a tiring Luis Martinez (0-5). Martinez allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 6.1 innings, walking four and striking out six.
Memphis plated its second run in the eighth when 3B Cody McKay led off with a double against Edmonton starter Jon Rauch and scored on C Mike Mahoney's single, but Edmonton brought in reliever Gary Majewski to retire the side. The Redbirds went down in order in the ninth to finish the game.
The Redbirds made several roster moves on Wednesday, trading INF Jerome Alviso to Louisville for INF Gary Burnham and adding OF Armando Rios from the Ottawa Lynx. The club also released INF Luis Ortiz. Memphis and Edmonton square off in the third game of the series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., as LHP Randy Flores (3-7, 3.92) will go for the Redbirds against LHP Scott Downs (8-4, 3.16).
