Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - On Tuesday, the Windy City ThunderBolts traded local standout catcher, Michael Lynch, to the Rockford RiverHawks for infielder Kiley Vaughn. Lynch, an Oak Forest native, had been solid behind the plate this season for the ThunderBolts. In seven games, Lynch posted a respectable .273 batting average while driving in five runs.
Vaughn has yet to play in the 2005 season. He spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons with Rockford, taking the field at both second base and shortstop. In the 2003 season, Vaughn committed just five errors in 363 total chances, while in 2004, an All-Star season, he committed 13 errors in 389 chances.
With the acquisition of Vaughn, the ThunderBolts released shortstop Ja'mar Clanton. Clanton, who spent three seasons within the Washington Nationals organization, hit .160 with Windy City in 2005 and had three stolen bases to his credit.
Also released from the ThunderBolts was left-handed pitcher, Felix Matta. Matta appeared in ten games and finished with a record of 3-3 in 2004 for the ThunderBolts. In two appearances this season, Matta went 1-0 with a 2.53 earned run average and held opponents to a .253 batting average.
Windy City acquired right-handed pitcher Charlie Hahn and catcher Joe Neal, who had both previously been released by the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League. Also, in a trade for a player to be named later, the ThunderBolts acquired first baseman Justin Schuda from the Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League.
On Wednesday, the ThunderBolts traded outfielder Brian Baker to the Richmond Roosters for future considerations. Baker, a 2004 Frontier League All-Star, had appeared in all 12 games so far this season, splitting his time between leftfield and first base.
The Windy City ThunderBolts are a member of the 12-team Frontier League. The Frontier League is an independent league with franchises throughout the upper Midwest.
