Richmond Roosters News Release

Evansville, Indiana – The Roosters beat the Evansville Otters 6-4 in the first game of a series to get back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Andre Simpson took the mound for Evansville with a chance to become the club's all-time wins leader, but he couldn't match the performance of Tony Casoli. Casoli started for Richmond and pitched six solid innings, giving up only one run and six hits while striking out nine Otters on the way to his first win of the season.

The first run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brian McKenna hit an RBI single to score Trask Munoz and give the Otters a 1-0 lead. The Roosters got to work in the top of the fifth inning and stole the lead away from the Otters. Kevin White started the scoring by getting a double off the wall in right to score Nate Gravely from first, then Tony Sanguinetti hit a home run into the Otters' bullpen to give the Roosters the lead at 3-1.

Nate Gravely led off the seventh inning with a ground-rule double and then scored when the shortstop committed an error on a ball hit by Kevin White. Three batters later, Ty Herriott hit his first professional home run, a two run shot, for a 6-1 Richmond lead. The Otters rallied in the bottom of the seventh with three runs to shrink the lead to 6-4. Kris Regas started the inning in relief of Casoli, but was pulled in favor of Grant Dorn after giving up a single, two doubles, and a solo homer. Dorn quieted Evansville's bats and pitched out of the inning without giving up another run. Dan Caldwell pitched the ninth inning for the Roosters and earned the first save of the year for the team in a 6-4 win.

The Roosters (5-8) have two games left against Evansville (6-7) before heading to Florence to finish the season-long 15-game road trip that began on May 28th. Curt Moenter (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will try to continue his outstanding start to the season as he will opposes Chris Pillsbury (0-2, 8.38 ERA). Game time is slated for 7:05pm (Indiana time).
