
Wild Things defeat Florence before TV Audience

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Florence Freedom 4-1 Thursday at Falconi Field in front of 3,159 fans in the second game of a three game series in a game televised on FSN Pittsburgh.
Florence struck first blood in the second inning with their only run of the game as Trevor Hall doubled to left field and eventually scored on a single by Scott Martin.
The Wild Things struck back an inning later as Shortstop David Reaver led off the third inning with a single and scored on secondbaseman Bruce Baldwin's single.
Washington broke the game open scoring three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning Mike Arbinger hit a triple to center field and then scored on Catcher Randy McGarvey's fielders choice. Firstbasemen T.J. Graves then doubled scoring McGarvey. Washington's final run plated as Baldwin singled to score Reaver who had reached base on a fielder's choice.
Brian Burks pitched seven innings allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out four batters improving his record to 3-0. Jim Popp pitched the final two innings allowing one hit while earning his third save on the year. Mike Dennison (1-3) was the tough luck loser for Florence allowing four runs and nine hits over seven innings.
The Wild Things and Freedom wrap up the series Friday night as Washington Auto Mall will host Fireworks Friday. RHP Brendon Davis (1-1) takes the mound for the Wild Things against RHP Jason Bowlin (1-0) for Florence. Game time is 7:05. Following the game the Wild Things take the road for a three game road trip to Ohio Valley, returning home Tuesday for a three game set with Kalamazoo.
