Central Valley Coyotes News Release

After having Sunday morning off, the Coyotes reconvened for practice Sunday afternoon.

Here are some highlights from Sunday afternoon's session:

Play of the Day: After being moved from wide receiver/defensive back to defensive specialist, Jay White stepped on the practice field with determination in his eyes. During team offense, White lined up against wide receiver Michael Marquez on the far sideline. Marquez ran a corner route with White right on his hip. As the ball was thrown both players went up for the ball with Marquez grabbing the reception, but White ripping the ball out of is hands for the interception.

Player of the Day: Jay White. After coming away with the play of the day today at training camp, White also impressed the coaches with his entire practice today. White was locking down receivers all of the afternoon session. During the 3-on-3 drills, White deflected five passes and only had one pass completed on him for a minimal game.

Quote of the Day: Coyotes Australian equipment manager John "Wombat" Paine on the experience thus far: "I am having a great time out here mate. Everyone out here has been extremely friendly to me and I truly feel part of this family out here. I can't wait for the season to begin!"

Morris says...: On giving the team the morning off: "After three straight days of two-a-day practices I felt the players needed a chance to sleep in, and rest their legs a little bit. It also gave me a chance to see how the players handled the situation having an opportunity to go out and to go the club or bar if they chose too. I was very impressed to see that not a single person looked sluggish at the afternoon session. I have a really good group of guys around me, and anytime I can get a group of guys who all have one goal then that makes my job even easier.

Atmosphere: The mood around practice was very upbeat, after having the morning off; the team seemed to have a clean crisp afternoon session.

Other Notes: The Coyotes released three players today, offensive specialist Thomas Bennett, quarterback John Esquival and defensive specialist Jay Morris...The Coyotes will have a walk thru practice Monday to continue to rest the players legs, with the night session scheduled to be in full pads...Season tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Selland Arena box office at 559-621-4700.
