Central Valley Coyotes News Release
The Coyotes resumed their second consecutive two-a-day sessions this Friday, with the offensive/defensive lineman lifting, while the skilled players hit the field for a lot of individual work. After the lineman returned from lifting, they received a little break before getting on the field and working with Coyotes Operator George Chung for a couple hours. Chung worked a lot of technique and feet drills with the lineman.
During the teams night practice you could see a little of the fatigue setting in from the first day of camp. The defense seemed to get the better of the offense during the night session, but the offense rallied towards the end despite being tired.
Here's a look at some other highlights from Friday at training camp:
Play of the Day: During team offense, quarterback Jose Fuentes threw a perfect spiral to wide receiver Howard Maxwell on a post route for a touchdown. Maxwell never had to break stride during the entire route with the ball landing right into his cradled arms in the endzone.
Player of the Day: Marvin Brown, the rookie offensive specialist has been making acrobatic receptions throughout training camp. During the night session, Brown grabbed two receptions for touchdowns off-balanced, including one reception with one hand.
Quote of the Day: Coyotes defensive coordinator Doug Murray on the secondary: "I have a lot of weapons in the secondary which allows me more time to teach these guy's a lot of different coverage's. They all can be shutdown db's and they all understand the game of Arena Football."
Morris says...: On the rookies: "You have to get these guy's caught up to speed on the arena game. It's still football, but you now have a shorter field and walls on the outside. The group of rookies I have right now are football smart and are catching on to this game quickly."
Atmosphere: The energy flowing around training camp today was shown throughout each session. The players put pads on for the first time during the night session and the hitting started right from the start during one-on-one drills.
Other Notes: The Coyotes will kickoff their 2004 season on Saturday, March 27th at the Selland Arena against the 2003 West Division champion Hawaiian Islanders. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Selland Arena box office at 559-621-4700.
