Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME, GA - Parker French continued his dominant start to the 2016 campaign with another brilliant pitching performance. French lead the Asheville Tourists to a 2-1 victory on Saturday night in Rome, Georgia. The Austin, Texas native worked six scoreless innings in impressive fashion. The Tourists right-hander allowed just two hits, both infield singles, and let only one ball leave the infield; a fly out to right. French has not allowed a run on the road this season in 18 innings pitched.
The Braves' Mike Soroka was solid in his five innings of work, but Asheville managed to plate a run off the starting pitcher in the top of the third. Carlos Herrera led off with a bunt single and took second on a throwing error by Austin Riley. Herrera moved to third on a Mylz Jones fly out and scored on Brendan Rodgers' single back up the middle.
In the sixth the Tourists added a key insurance run. Sam Hilliard came to the plate with two outs and Yonathan Daza at first base. Hilliard worked a lengthy at bat against Oriel Caicedo that ended with Hilliard clubbing a triple to deep right field. Daza raced around the bases to make it 2-0.
French departed after six innings and Rome quickly took advantage with a solo Home Run from Jonathan Morales in the seventh. The Tourists kept the Braves at bay and were able to bring their closer, Sam Thoele, into a one-run game in the bottom of the ninth. Thoele issued a pair of walks but ended up striking out the side to notch his second save of the year.
With the win, Asheville has won two games in a row for the first time this season. The Tourists will go for their third straight win on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch coming at 2:00pm.
