PREVIEW: The Shorebirds continue a four game series on the road tonight in Kannapolis, NC against the Kannapolis Intimidators at Intimidators Stadium. Kannapolis is the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Shorebirds have won four of their last six games, including a 10-4 game last night in the biggest offensive night of the season. Tonight will be the sixth of 19 meetings this season between the two teams, with Kannapolis leading the season series, 3-2. The two teams just played a three game set in Kannapolis last week.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Left-hander Ryan Riga gets the ball for manager Cole Armstrong tonight. Riga has struggled in three starts this season, allowing five earned runs in each outing. He faced the Shorebirds on April 13th and was tagged for six runs on seven hits through 3.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .429 against Riga this season. Riga is a 6'0" 190 pound, 23-year old lefty from Fairfield, Ohio (near Cincinnati). He pitched for three seasons at The Ohio State University before he was taken in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft. Tonight is Riga's fourth professional start and his 23rd appearance overall.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
