Tourists Take Grasshoppers by Storm in Series Opener

GREENSBORO- The Asheville Tourists continued their fine play against the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2018 with a 9-4 series opening win at First National Bank Field. Will Gaddis pitched seven strong innings for the Tourists and Asheville scored eight of their nine runs between the sixth and eighth innings to secure the win.

Matt Hearn scored the game's first run in the top of inning number one. Asheville manufactured the run with a single, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI groundout by Sean Bouchard. The score remained 1-0 until Greensboro tied the game with a run in the fifth.

Casey Golden put the Tourists on top in the sixth inning with a three-run Home Run and Asheville added four run runs in the seventh. Austin Bernard, Hearn, Ryan Vilade, and Bouchard all knocked in runs while the Tourists batted around in the frame.

Hearn added another RBI single in the eighth inning. Even though the Grasshoppers managed two runs in the ninth, the game was well decided in Asheville's favor. The Tourists finished with 12 hits including three-hit performances by Hearn and Todd Czinege.

Asheville is now 9-2 against Greensboro this season but still has three games left against the Grasshoppers this series. Saturday's contest will begin at 7:00pm.
