Lexington Legends News Release
A four-run Asheville rally in the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and the Tourists defeated the Lexington Legends 6-2 in Asheville Wednesday night.
Jimmy Cesario started the eighth with his 11th home run of the year, putting Asheville in front 3-2. One out later, Kiel Roling doubled, and Delta Cleary was intentionally walked. Ryan Peisel struck out, but David Christenson tripled to center field, scoring Roling and Cleary to give Asheville 5-2 lead. An infield hit by Thomas Field brough Christenson home with the final run.
The Legends had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a single by Eric Suttle, a double by Jay Austin and a sacrifice fly by Brian Pellegrini. It was Pellegrini's 68th RBI of the season and the 137th of his career as a Legend, five behind the record set by Ramon German in 2001 and 2002.
In the bottom of the fifth, two walks and a single by Scott Robinson tied the game at 1-1.
Lexington regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Russell Dixon walked, moved to second on a sacrifice by Albert Cartwright and scored on Austin's second double of the game.
But Asheville came back again with two outs in the bottom of the sixth when Kiel Roling singled and came around to score on a double by Mike Zuanich.
With 25 home runs, Pellegrini remains in a tie with Hunter Pence and Beau Hearod for the Legends single-season home run record. The Legends have five games remaining in the season.
The series is even at one win apiece with the final game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thursday at McCormick Field in Asheville.
