BlueClaws Lose Home Finale
September 2, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - In their regular season home sendoff, the Lakewood BlueClaws allow two late runs to lose 4-2 to the Hagerstown Suns on Wednesday night.
The BlueClaws got out to a one-run lead in the fourth as Harold Garcia walked to lead off the inning and he scored on a two-out double by Jim Murphy to take the lead. Murphy has hit RBI-doubles on consecutive nights.
After BlueClaws (32-31) starter Jesus Sanchez went six scoreless, allowing just two hits, Freddy Ballestas came on with the lead, but allowed two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 2-1 ballgame in favor of the Suns.
The BlueClaws then made some noise in the bottom half of the inning as they loaded the bases against Carlos Peralta, who allowed a run to score on a wild pitch, but the BlueClaws did no further damage. Infact, the BlueClaws left the bases loaded in back-to-back innings.
In the ninth, still against Ballestas (1-3), the Suns (23-39) pushed two more runs across to take the lead and add insurance and the BlueClaws don't show any magic in the ninth, going down in order.
The Suns starter, Robinson Fabian went four innings and allowed one run, and reliever Clayton Dill (1-0) got the win as he pitched the eighth, his first of the season.
The Suns, who went 6-15 against the BlueClaws this season, win their first series of the year against them, one week removed from being swept at home.
The BlueClaws end their home schedule with the record of 37-34.
The BlueClaws will now travel to Delmarva to take on the Shorebirds in a five-game series to end the regular season before the playoffs begin on September 9th. Lakewood will feature lefty and newcomer Korey Noles (-) in his BlueClaws debut and the Shorebirds pitcher is to be determined. The first game of the series will start at 7:05 pm on the Shore Sports Network, 1160am and 1310am.
