Charleston Pitching Outlasts Braves

Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Charleston RiverDogs defeated the Rome Braves 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in front of 2,061 fans at State Mutual Stadium in thirteen innings. Rome had Charleston no-hit for nine inning but couldn't muster any offense.

Pitching stifled both the Braves and RiverDogs lineups as neither team could manage a run until the top of the thirteenth inning when Charleston's bats got hot. Corban Joseph led off the inning with a single and Melky Mesa followed with a base hit. Taylor Grote then added another hit to score Joseph and Garrison Lassiter would single up the middle scoring Mesa and Grote. A sacrifice fly by Jeff Farnham to score Lassiter would cap off the inning and give Charleston a 4-0 win.

The one high note for the Braves was their pitching in this game. Julio Teheran pitched seven scoreless innings, gave up no hits, walked only one and struck out seven in a no decision. Angelo Paulino came on in the eighth in relief and gave the Braves what would have been a combined no hitter through nine innings but Rome couldn't score any runs.

Manuel Barreda (1-0) picks up the win for Charleston and Clayton McMillan (2-3) takes the loss.

The Braves host the Augusta Greenjackets tomorrow night at 7pm in the first of two games. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
