Tourists pull out victory

Augusta, GA- The Tourists resumed play after the All-Star break with a 5-2 loss at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, GA on Thursday night. Kevin Clark smacked a two-run homerun, his eighth of the season, but Augusta scored three runs in the seventh to hang on for the win.

Sheng-An Kuo (8-4) pitched six innings and allowed five runs on just five hits in the loss. For Kuo it was his first loss in six starts. The GreenJackets scored first after a leadoff walk in the first inning and an RBI double by Nick Noonan. Noonan would move to third on a wild pitch and score on a sacrifice fly by DH Thomas Neal. After allowing a leadoff single in the second inning, Kuo retired the next 13 batters he faced heading into the seventh. The right-hander also recorded a season high in strikeouts with seven on the evening.

Asheville (46-25, 0-1) scored on the two run blast by Kevin Clark to pull even in the fourth inning. The GreenJackets (42-29, 1-0) knocked out Kuo after a leadoff walk in the seventh with hits by Angel Villalona and Jackson Williams. Mathew Reynolds would then relieve Kuo trailing 3-2 and allowed both runners on base to score before getting out of the inning. Reynolds pitched a perfect eighth in a two inning performance.

Oliver Odle (5-4) in his second start against Asheville this season struck out a season high ten batters in 7 2/3 innings of work. Odle left in the eighth and Andrew De La Garza retired the final four batters to earn his first save of the season. The loss puts the Tourists out of first place for the first time since May 9th. The two teams will resume the five game series from Augusta with staff ace Jhoulys Chacin (10-1, 2.10) against All Star Daryl Maday (5-4, 1.89) beginning at 7:00 pm.
