GreenJackets Open Second Half of Season with Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 1-0) began the second half of the season with a 5-2 win over the Asheville Tourists (46-24, 0-1) on Thursday night. Starter Oliver Odle matched a career high with 10 srikeouts and Jackson Williams broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI single.

The GreenJackets plated three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead. Andrew Davis led off the frame with a walk then moved to third on the double by Angel Villalona. Williams followed with an RBI single to chase Asheville starter Sheng-An Kuo.

The very first pitch reliever Matthew Reynolds threw was a wild pitch allowing Villalona to score and Williams to move up to third. Charlie Culberson then had an RBI sac-fly to right-field to cap off the scoring.

Odle (5-4) allowed two runs on seven hits and did not walk a batter over 7.2 innings. Odle left the game after allowing a two-out single to Everth Cabrera in the eighth inning.

Andrew De La Garza recorded his first save of the season working a perfect 1.1 innings while striking out two.

Augusta took the early 2-0 lead in the first inning getting an RBI double from Nick Noonan and an RBI sac-fly to left field from Thomas Neal that nearly was a home run.

The Tourists tied the game in the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Kevin Clark.

The GreenJackets and Tourists continue their five game series Friday night with Augusta sending right-hander Daryl Maday (5-4, 1.89) to the mound. Asheville sends right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (10-1, 2.10). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Nick Noonan finished 2-for-4 to push his hit streak to a career high 14 games. Noonan leads the team with 15 doubles.

Augusta matched its high water mark for the season of 14 games over the .500 mark.

Angel Villalona finished 2-for-3.

Asheville out hit Augusta 7-5
