(Asheville, NC)--The Asheville Tourists exploded for 11 runs in a three-inning span Tuesday night, and held on for an 11-8 win over the Lake County Captains at McCormick Field.

It was the second straight loss for the Captains (16-15), who have lost eight of their last nine road games.

The Captains belted a season-high four home runs in the game, but were held to just seven hits overall by three Asheville pitchers.

The Captains took an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third inning against Ryan Mattheus (1-0). They made it 3-0 in the fourth on Fernando Pacheco's two-run home run.

The Tourists (18-13) then sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five times against Captains starter Aaron Laffey (2-1). Justin Nelson's two-run double highlighted the rally as the Tourists took a 5-3 lead.

Asheville scored an unearned run in the sixth to make it 6-3 and then plated five more in the sixth to run the score to 11-3. Laffey gave up a pair of runs in the sixth and was lifted in favor of Bo Ashabraner with runners on first and second and two outs. Asheville's Florentino Nunez smashed Ashabraner's first pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer.

Juan Valdes stroked a solo homer for the Captains in the seventh to make it 11-4. The homer parade continued in the eighth against Tourists reliever Daric Merrell when Mike Butia clubbed a three-run homer and Josh Noviskey added a solo shot to make it 11-8.

In the ninth, Valdes walked and Mike Conroy reached on a catcher's interference call, but lefty Adam Bright retired Butia on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Mattheus worked six innings and allowed only three hits. He walked two and struck out three. He worked around two of his own fielding errors early in the game.

Laffey suffered his first loss of the season. The Tourists reached Laffey for nine hits and 10 runs, eight earned.

Captains third baseman Matt Whitney committed three errors in the game, including two on the same play in the fifth.

The Captains and Tourists have combined for 30 runs in the first two games of the series. They will play game three on Wednesday in a special matinee event at 10:30 AM (WELW AM 1330).
