Reyes Leads Captains to 5-4 Win in 11th

(Asheville, NC)--Argenis Reyes had four hits Wednesday, including the game-winner in the 11th inning, as the Lake County Captains defeated the Asheville Tourists 5-4 at McCormick Field.

Reyes, in a 2-23 slump entering the game, went 4-6 in the game with two stolen bases. He slapped a run-scoring single up the middle in the top of the 11th inning to snap a 4-4 tie and ultimately secure the win for the Captains (17-15).

With the score tied at 4, Chris Gimenez led off the Captains 11th with a double to right off Asheville Reliever Matt Daly (4-1). Juan Valdes moved Gimenez to third with a sacrifice bunt and Reyes brought him home with a single.

T.J. Burton (3-2) earned the win for the Captains. Burton, the fifth Captains pitcher of the game, entered he game in the 10th and retired all six batters he faced.

Lake County rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two runs in the eighth on an RBI double from Mike Butia and a sacrifice fly by Matt Whitney.

The Captains took a 4-3 lead in the ninth when Valdes singled, moved to second when Jose Ortega was hit by a pitch, took third on a bad pick-off throw and scored on a wild pitch. The Tourists, however, tied it 4-4 with a run in the bottom of the ninth off Scott Roehl.

Asheville starting pitcher Juan Morillo, a member of the Colorado Rockies 40-man roster, pitched the first six innings and struck out 10. He allowed a first-inning run but nothing after that. Morillo touched 99 miles-per-hour on the radar gun Wednesday and consistently threw 97. He left with a 3-1 lead.

Captains starter Tony Sipp allowed just one run in five innings, with three walks and four strikeouts, but didn't factor in the decision.

The Captains snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, and will now look to split the series with the Tourists (18-14) in the finale on Thursday evening at 7:00 (WELW AM 1330).
