Bombers Split Pair with Sandgnats

GREENVILLE, SC - After coasting to an easy win in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader at Municipal Stadium, the Greenville Bombers had to settle for a split as Savannah earned an extra-innings victory in the nightcap. Edgardo Baez' home run to lead-off the top of the eighth inning gave the Sandgnats a 3-2 win in game two after Greenville claimed the opener, 9-2.

Baez homer, his fifth of the season, came off Bombers righthander Harvey Garcia (2-2), who allowed two solo blasts in suffering the loss. Greenville starter Mike Rozier departed the game with a 2-1 lead after working five and two-third innings without allowing an earned run. However, catcher Devin Ivany homered to left field on the first pitch thrown by Garcia in top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 2-2.

In the opener, the Bombers plated three runs in the each of the first two innings off righthander Steven Cook (0-2). Brett LeVier, who had four RBI on the game, gave the Bombers the initial lead with a three-run double to right-center field in the first inning. In the second, John Otness' two-run double capped the rally to put Greenville ahead, 6-0. Otness, Andrew Pinckney and Matt Ciaramella each had three hits as part of the Bombers 14-hit attack.

Matt Goodson (1-3) earned his first win of the season, allowing two unearned runs over five innings.

The clubs meet in the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday at 7:05pm. Righthander Scott Shoemaker (2-1) will pitch for Greenville against Savannah lefthander Ricardo Morales (2-1).

NOTES: In his last 2 starts, ROZIER has not allowed an earned run over 11.2 innings......in his last 4 appearances GOODSON has yielded just 2 ER over 15.1 innings......the Bombers are now 14-19 on the season and 1-2 on the current homestand, which continues Friday vs. Rome.......Of MATT CIARAMELLA went 4-for-8 in the twinbill. In his last 11 games he is batting .386 (17-44) ......1b/Dh JOHN OTNESS hit safely in both games and now has a 5-game hit streak. He also has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games......Rhp JESUS DELGADO pitched 2 scoreless frames in the opener. In his last 5 outings, Delgado has yielding 1 run over 10 innings......
