Tourists Beat Drive, 6-3, for second-straight triumph

Asheville, NC - For the second night in-a-row, Asheville's offense took control of the game in the middle innings while their pitching staff held the Drive to just two hits during the final four frames to win the second game of the six-game series over Greenville, 6-3, Wednesday night at McCormick Field.

Over their first three series of the year Greenville is now a combined 0-6 in the first two games to begin a series.

Chris Murphy started the game for the Drive and was charged with his first loss of the season. The lefty hurled 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits, three homers and two walks. He fanned five.

The Tourists' starter, Matt Rupenthal, went 4.1 innings and surrendered three runs on three hits, one home run and one walk with eight punchouts. Jimmy Endersby earned the win in relief after pitching 4.0 innings of shutout ball. He allowed just two hits and one walk. He fanned seven.

Cam Cannon registered three hits, half of the team's ledger, for his sixth multi-hit effort in his last nine games. Tyreque Reed drove in two RBI via his two-run clout in the first. He now has five home runs on the year. For the second-straight night the Drive struggled with runners in scoring position, posting a 1-for-8 line. Additionally, Greenville struckout 15 times.

The Drive quickly continued their home run-happy start to the season. With two outs in the inning, Tyler Esplin drew a walk. A batter later, Reed crushed a 2-1 pitch to right for a two-run homer. Greenville led, 2-0, at the end of the first inning.

Asheville cut into the Greenville lead, 2-1, in the third inning on an Alex McKenna solo home run.

The home runs kept coming in the fourth inning. Asheville hit back-to-back clouts to start the frame via Korey Lee and Scott Schreiber to take 3-2 lead.

Greenville quickly tied the score in the next half inning, 3-3. Kole Cottam led off the inning and was hit-by-pitch. He then advanced to second on a Michael Osinski single. After a strikeout, Cole Brannen hit into a force out to put runners on the corners. Cannon stepped up to the plate next and collected an RBI single, his second hit of the game.

The Tourists answered right back to retake the lead, 5-3. With two outs, Lee singled to right to drive in two runs.

Asheville added another insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. The first two batters of the frame reached base. The third batter struckout but Tyler Krabbe followed with a RBI single to right, pushing the lead to 6-3 in favor of the Tourists.

Game three is set for 6:35 pm at McCormick Park in Asheville, NC. The Drive are expected to send Brayan Bello with the Tourists sending Tyler Brown.
