Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - The Asheville Tourists made it two wins in a row over the Greenville Drive with a 6-3 victory at McCormick Field. Korey Lee drove in three runs to pace the offense while Matt Ruppenthal and Jimmy Endersby dealt out 15 strikeouts between the two of them to lead the pitching efforts.
Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a long ball by Tyreque Reed. Asheville's starting pitcher, Ruppenthal, immediately settled in following the Home Run. The right-hander retired the next ten Drive hitters while Asheville's offense came alive.
Alex McKenna was the first to strike against Greenville's starting pitcher Chris Murphy. McKenna crushed a solo Home Run to right-centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Not long afterwards, Lee belted a leadoff Home Run in the fourth to tie the score 2-2. On the very next pitch Scott Schreiber put Asheville in front with a Home Run of his own to centerfield.
The Drive were able to tie the game with an RBI infield single in the top of the fifth. Ruppenthal finished with eight strikeouts in his 4.1 innings pitched before Yeremi Ceballos finished off the fifth. In the bottom half, Lee struck again. Asheville's catcher connected with a two-out, two-run single into left field to give the Tourists a 5-3 lead.
Tyler Krabbe added an insurance run in the sixth when he singled in Colin Barber from second base. Endersby had all the run support he needed. The right-hander pitched the final four innings for the Tourists and allowed only two hits with seven strikeouts. Endersby struck out the side in the ninth.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday night for game three of the scheduled six-game series. The first pitch is slated for 6:35pm.
