Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists earned their third consecutive victory on Wednesday night with an impressive 7-5 win over the Hagerstown Suns. It's the first three-game win streak Asheville has compiled this season; however, the grit shown by the Tourists in this contest will result in many more victories.
The first few innings were back-and-forth. Hagerstown scored once in the first and Asheville answered with two of their own. Luke Morgan doubled home Terrin Vavra and then scored on a Suns error later in the frame. The Suns countered with two runs in the top of the second but once again Asheville had an answer; Vavra drove in Coco Montes with a single to right.
Each team had opportunities to score additional runs over the first three frames but the Tourists starting pitcher, Ryan Feltner, made big pitches at big points throughout the evening. Feltner surrendered only one more run and it came in the top of the fourth. Asheville's offense picked up the right-hander and plated two in the bottom half to put the Tourists back in front 5-4. Morgan and Grant Lavigne both contributed RBI hits in the inning.
Feltner came back out and pitched the fifth inning with toughness and heart. After allowing a lead-off double, the Tourists hurler recorded two outs before punctuating his outing with an inning-ending strikeout.
The starting pitcher recorded his first win of the year thanks in part to the bullpen's effort behind him. Derrik Watson pitched outstanding for two innings with the Tourists in front by just one. Boby Johnson followed with a scoreless inning himself.
Will Golsan delivered a clutch two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give Asheville a 7-4 lead. Hagerstown managed one in the ninth on a Home Run by Gilbert Lara, but Alexander Martinez notched his fourth save of the year by striking out the game's final hitter.
Morgan and Vavra each finished with three hits and the Tourists totaled 11 in the game. Asheville will attempt to sweep the Suns with the series finale scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05pm.
