Tortugas Eat up Fire Frogs, 11-2, Wednesday

DAYTONA BEACH, FL -The Tortugas batted around in a six-run fifth inning, en route to their 11-2 win over the Florida Fire Frogs Wednesday night at Radiology Associates Field.

The Tortugas opened the game with four straight singles to get on the board, with Tyler Stephenson driving in the run. Two batters later, Daniel Sweet doubled the lead with a groundout to second. After Bruce Yari walked to reload the bases, Malik Collymore was hit by a pitch in the shoulder to make it 3-0.

Daytona would add another run in the second. Friedl reached on a one-out double, then scored on a Nay single to make it 4-0.

In the third, Taylor Trammell led off the inning with a solo home run to right field, his third long ball of the season.

The Tortugas would come up in the fifth and blow the game open, scoring six runs to run their lead to 11-0. After RHP Chad Sobotka retired the first two in the inning, the next eight batters reached. Sweet started the rally with a single, extending his hitting-streak to 13 games. Bruce Yari and Collymore followed with walks to load the bases, before Carlos Rivero came up and hit a two-run single. After Herrera walked to load the bases once again, Friedl followed with a walk of his own to make it 8-0. One pitch later, Nay would drive in Rivero and Herrera with a base hit to give the Tortugas a 10-0 lead. They rounded out the scoring on a Stephenson RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, the Fire Frogs got on the board with a pair of runs against RHP Nick Howard. Omar Obregon drove in Alejandro Salazar with a double and Anfernee Seymour followed with an RBI single.

LHP Wennington Romero (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings for his second win of the year. He allowed four hits, while striking out five.

RHP Ian Anderson (0-2) was handed the loss. He went 2 2/3 innings, gave up seven hits, five runs, two walks, and a home run.

Nick Howard pitched the final three innings in relief to earn his second save, despite giving up three hits and two runs.

The Tortugas head on the road for the next eight days for a seven-games road trip that begins Thursday. They stop in Fort Myers for four games, have an off day Monday, then finish with three in Jupiter before heading back to The Jack on May 4th. LHP Ty Boyles (0-1, 18.00) will get the ball for Daytona against RHP Charlie Barnes (0-2, 4.38).

First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7:00 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:45 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

NOTES: Daniel Sweet extended his league-best on-base streak to 26-straight with a third inning walk. He also extended his league-best hitting-streak to 13 with a fifth-inning single... The next longest hitting-streak in the FSL is his teammate Dilson Herrera (10)... Sweet has reached base in 16 of his last 21 plate appearances (9 BB, 4 1B, 3 2B)... Wennington Romero has now tossed 13 scoreless innings against the Fire Frogs this season... Mitch Nay had the Tortugas second 4-hit game of the year (Ibandel Isabel)... Five of Carlos Rivero's six hits have driven in a run... Bruce Yari has drawn 15 walks, but has just six hits... Daytona is now 14-1 when leading after six, 10-1 after seven, and 10-0 after eight.
