TODAY'S GAME: Finale of a three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas (CIN) at Jackie Robinson Ballpark (0-2), and game three of a seven-game road trip against the Tortugas followed by a four-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium (0-2)...The two teams split the first two games of the season in Daytona, with the Fire Frogs taking the victory on Opening Night, 3-2...The Fire Frogs went 7-7 against the Tortugas in 2017, including 2-5 on the road...Florida is looking to avoid its first series sweep of the season.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHER: 19-year-old Ian Anderson makes his fourth start of 2018 in the finale of the three-game series againt the Daytona Tortugas on Wednesday night...The 6'3" hurler came into the campaign as the Atlanta Braves fifthranked prospect in both Baseball America and MLB.com, and is the 42nd- (Baseball America) and 51st- (MLB.com) overall rated prospect in baseball...The native of Rexford, N.Y. allowed three runs on four hits, two walks and four strikeouts in just 2.2 innings in a loss against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on April 20...Wednesday will be Anderson's first career start against the Tortugas.
EARLY LEAD FALLS IN LOSS TO DAYTONA: The Florida Fire Frogs dropped game two of a three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas, 7-3, at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The loss hands Florida their fifth series defeat in six chances to open up the 2018 season.
The Fire Frogs grabbed two early leads against Ryan Olson, with a run in the first to have a 1-0 advantage and a run in the second to make the score 2-1, but both were short-lived as the Tortugas answered each time with a run in the first and two in the second.
Joey Wentz's streak of 11-consecutive scoreless innings came to an end after allowing a lead-off double to Dilson Herrera, which was followed by an RBI single by T.J. Friedl.
AN ODD START: Joey Wentz struggled to command the strike zone in the early portion of Tuesday night's contest, as the young southpaw worked three-ball counts to six of the first seven batters, with five of those going to 3-2 counts... The 20-year-old also fell behind 1-0 those first seven batters...In his previous start against the St. Lucie Mets on April 19, Wentz fell behind 1-0 to only three of the 17 men he faced through five shutout innings, and had just four three-ball counts, with three of those at-bats finishing in strikeouts.
JUMP ON IT: After going 0-for-8 on April 19 and 20, Cristian Pache has bene on a tear at the plate for Florida...The 19-year-old has picked up eight hits over his last 16 at-bats with three runs, a triple, three RBI and a walk...The young outfielder has seen a significant increase in his batting average over the last three games, as the number started at .230, but has gone up to .286.
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT: With 19 games played this season, 13 have already been decided by two runs or less for Florida...The Fire Frogs have gone 6-7 this season in close contests, and are 28-51 in just over a year in those games...All six of the Fire Frogs victories have been decided by two runs or less (three by one run, three by two runs).
